The San Cristóbal–Palenque highway project, currently promoted by the Chiapas state government as the “Mayan Cultures Route,” is advancing through Indigenous and peasant territories amid ongoing concerns regarding the lack of information, the absence of free, prior, and informed consultation, environmental impacts, and violations of collective rights.
This carousel presents an illustrated summary based on the statement issued by the Documentation Caravan, composed of CEDIAC, FRAYBA, DESMI, and Brigada Común, in coordination with MODEVITE (Movement in Defense of Life and Territory), and draws on publicly available information regarding the project.
Communities have identified risks to forests, springs, rivers, sacred sites, farming plots, and community ways of life. They have also denounced threats, harassment, the conditioning of social programs, and the fragmentation of the social fabric.
Without information, there can be no consultation.
Without consultation, there can be no consent.
Without consent, there can be no justice.
Yes to life.
No to the dispossession of territory.
